立春 risshun
最近では旧暦で生活しているという人々と出会うことも多くなりました。二十四節氣においては立春が始まりの時。暦の上で春になり、着物の先生から、草花などに雪の降り積もった雪持ちの文様は立春までとよくいわれたのを思い出します。
大寒の最後の日が節分で、その次の日が立春となります。節分蕎麦といってこの地域では節分に蕎麦を食べる習慣があると聞きました。そして立春は立春豆腐を食べて邪気を払う習慣もあるそうです。豆まきや、恵方巻も一年の邪気を払い長寿を願います。新たな年が始まる日を立春、年越しとは大晦日ではなく節分だとする考え方も、気持ち新たに過ごすことができ、素敵だなと思います。
恵那山麓では寒波がやってきて雪も降りましたがそれでも少しずつ春の訪れを感じています。さて、二月は春なのか、と問われれば何と答えるのか。二月の春を特徴づけるのは、“寒さのどん底”にある“光の強まり”にあるのだと思います。日の出がはやくなり、澄んだ青空の下には光が満ちて、光の春が始まっています。
Risshun - February 3 Recently, I have been meeting more and more people who say they live by using the lunar calendar. Risshun is the beginning of the 24 seasons. It is the beginning of spring on the calendar. I remember my kimono teacher used to tell me that I should only wear kimonos with snowy patterns on flowers and plants until Risshun. The last day of "Daikan" (the coldest day of the year) is Setsubun, and the next day is Risshun (the first day of spring). I heard that there is a custom in this area to eat soba noodles on Setsubun, called Setsubun Soba. It is also said that on Risshun, there is a custom to eat Risshun Tofu to ward off evil spirits. Mamemaki (bean-throwing) and ehoumaki (rolls wrapped sushi) are also to ward off evil spirits for the year and wish for long life. Some people believe that Risshun is the day on which a new year begins, and that New Year's Eve is not true New Year's Eve but Setsubun. At the foot of Mt. Ena, we had a cold wave and it snowed, but even so, we are gradually feeling the arrival of spring. Now, what would you say if asked if February is spring? What characterizes spring in February, I think, is the "intensity of light" at the "bottom of the cold”. The sun rises earlier, the clear blue sky is filled with light, and the spring of light has begun.
散歩
恵那山麓では「馬酔木」アセビという植物も柊と同じように節分にかざるそうです。地域のこども園の園児が節分前になると山へ採りに行くと聞きました。馬酔木は有毒成分が含まれ、馬が葉を食べれば毒に当たって苦しみ、酔うが如くにふらつくようになる木というのが漢字の由来です。
わたしもそれを知ってから、節分には馬酔木と柊を裏山から調達しています。先日山へ向かう途中、雪がまだ解けないその下から草が生えてきているのを見つけました。葉を全て落とした落葉樹の枝も、太陽の光を探してぐんと枝を伸ばしています。オオイヌノフグリはどこかにないかな。なんとなく沢水の流れがやわらかく感じ、氷が解けていく柄に見覚えがあるように思いました。薄氷は、俳句の世界ではうすらひと読むそうです。そういえば庭先の梅も蕾が赤く膨らんで今にも咲きそう。
道草をしながら季節はしっかりと循環をしていることを教えてくれます。
Eating grass by the roadside
In Japan, "eating grass by the roadside" means to spendtime doing something else on the way to one's goal.At the foot of Mt. Ena, aplant called "Asebi" is also said to be displayed at Setsubun in thesame way as holly. It is written in Kanji as "a tree that makes horsesdrunk".Asebi contains poisonous ingredients, and if a horse eats theleaves, it will suffer from the poison and become unsteady as if it wereintoxicated.Since I learned about this, I have been collecting Asebi and hollyfrom the mountains. On my way to the mountain the other day, I found grassgrowing out from under the snow that had not yet melted. The branches ofdeciduous trees, which have lost all their leaves, are growing taller andtaller, looking for sunlight. I observed the goldenrod to see if I could findit anywhere. Somehow I felt the flow of stream water was soft and the patternof melting ice seemed familiar. In the world of haiku, "thin ice" iscalled "usurihi”. The buds of the plum trees in myyard are red and swollen and about to bloom.
Walking along the roadside eating grass tells me that the seasonsare firmly in circulation.

私たちは恵那山のふもとでフリーペーパーを発行している任意団体です。本当の意味で“誰一人取り残されない”のは季節の移り変わりではないでしょうか。また美しい自然から、地域の強みや魅力を教えられているのは、私たちだとも感じています。 心を豊かにするこの地域のひとときを二十四節氣とともに発信。そしてこの地のスタートアップから、インタビューや寄稿を通したコンテンツは、恵那山の頂きより「ヤッホー！」と叫ぶように、多くの人々に届いたらいいなと思っています。
We are a voluntary organization that publishes free papers at the foot of Mt. Ena. Isn’t it the change of seasons that truly means that no one is left behind? I also feel that we are the ones who are taught the strengths and charms of the region by the beautiful nature. We will transmit a moment of this region that enriches the mind with 24 seasons. And I hope that the content through interviews and contributions from startups in this area will reach as many people as possible like shouting “Yo-ho!” from the top of Mt. Ena.
