立夏
風薫る皐月に入り、立夏となりました。暦の上では夏となり、陽射しはやわらかく、生命の息吹が満ちているのを感じます。この時期ならではの山仕事に勤しむ日々が続きます。たけのこを掘ったり、山菜を採ったりしていると、「旬は一瞬である」ということを改めて実感します。これからは田んぼに水が張られ、本格的な田植えの準備へと移ります。
昔ながらの米づくり
二十四節気のお便りでは、毎年どこかの節気で米作りに触れています。恵那山麓では多くの人々が米を作っており、二十四節気は農業暦とも深く結びついています。さらに、お祭りや神事などの伝統行事とも関係があり、いくつになっても米作りから学び続けることができると感じています。
今年は中津川市坂下にて「昔ながらの米づくり体験」を開催予定の、NPO法人ゑなの皆さんを訪ねました。田植え、稲刈り、脱穀を体験し、新嘗祭ではしめ縄も作ることができるイベントがこれから始まります。その準備として、苗づくりを体験させてもらいました。「日本人は長きにわたり暮らしの中心にあったはずの、本来の米づくりを忘れつつあるのではないか。」と、代表の曽我はづきさん。「みんなでつくるもの」を体験しながら何を感じ、どう未来へつなげていくのかを考えます。
米作りには八十八の工程があるといわれていますが、苗を育てる過程も貴重な学びの機会となりました。種籾を塩水につけ、沈んだものを選び、少しだけ発芽したものを専用の土に蒔きました。
今年の立夏は子どもの日と重なります。青空に舞う鯉のぼりは、急流をさかのぼるような力強さで泳いでいました。子どもたちが「米を育てること」を自分もやってみたいと思い、「できた」という経験ができれば、人生の宝になるでしょう。
稲の苗はまっすぐ育ち、大地に根を張りながら、これから本格的に訪れる夏の太陽を浴びて成長していきます。その姿は、まるで子どもたちの成長と重なるようです。土に根ざしながら大きく育つという体験を、米作りから学びたいものです。
Rikka – Beginning of Summer
As we enter Satsuki(May), the month when the wind carries the fragrance of fresh greenery, the solar term of Rikka marks the beginning of summer on the traditional calendar. The sunlight softens, and the world feels full of the breath of life. During this season, unique mountain activities such as digging bamboo shoots and foraging for wild vegetables remind us of a simple truth: “seasonal delights are fleeting.” Soon, rice paddies will be filled with water as preparations for rice planting begin.
Traditional Rice Farming Experience
Around the foot of Mt. Ena, many people continue to grow rice, and the 24 solar terms are deeply tied to the agricultural calendar. They also relate to traditional events like festivals and rituals, making rice farming a source of lifelong learning.
This year, we visited NPO Ena, which is planning a “Traditional Rice Farming Experience” in Sakashita, Nakatsugawa City. Participants will try planting, harvesting, and threshing rice, and even make sacred straw ropes (shimenawa) for the harvest festival.
According to Hazuki Soga, the group’s representative, “Japanese people may be forgetting the essence of rice farming, which was once central to our lives.” Through hands-on experiences of creating something together, we’re encouraged to reflect on what we learn and how to carry it forward.
ゑなの結とは
私たちは恵那山のふもとでフリーペーパーを発行している任意団体です。本当の意味で“誰一人取り残されない”のは季節の移り変わりではないでしょうか。また美しい自然から、地域の強みや魅力を教えられているのは、私たちだとも感じています。 心を豊かにするこの地域のひとときを二十四節氣とともに発信。そしてこの地のスタートアップから、インタビューや寄稿を通したコンテンツは、恵那山の頂きより「ヤッホー！」と叫ぶように、多くの人々に届いたらいいなと思っています。
We are a voluntary organization that publishes free papers at the foot of Mt. Ena. Isn't it the change of seasons that truly means that no one is left behind? I also feel that we are the ones who are taught the strengths and charms of the region by the beautiful nature. We will transmit a moment of this region that enriches the mind with 24 seasons. And I hope that the content through interviews and contributions from startups in this area will reach as many people as possible like shouting "Yo-ho!" from the top of Mt. Ena.
