霜降
霜降は朝夕の冷え込みが深まり、昼夜の寒暖差とともに、恵那山のふもとの山々も少しずつ紅葉に彩られる季節です。それでも、今年の岩村城下町には、まだ力強い日差しが降り注いでいました。
木村邸
映画のロケ地としても知られる岩村城下町。今も人々の暮らしが息づくこの町では、家々から聞こえる生活の音にまじり、清らかな水音が絶えず響いています。本通りに沿って流れる「天正疎水」。織田信長の家臣が町を整備した際に引かれたこの水路は、四百五十年以上にわたり、町を潤し続けてきました。
水音に耳を澄ませながら歩みを進めると、大正、明治、江戸、そして戦国時代へと、時を遡っていくような不思議な感覚に包まれます。時代ごとに異なる町の表情に触れ、岩村の奥深い魅力に気づかされます。
今回訪ねたのは「木村邸」。かつては、岩村藩の庄屋を務め、お殿様と町人をつなぐ地域の大切な結び目でもありました。八百年続くと伝わる秋祭りでは、この邸宅の前で神事が行われています。案内の方によると、少なくともご自身が幼い頃から続く光景なのだそうです。
お殿様専用の玄関を入ると、襖に描かれたコサギが目に留まります。美しい冠羽（かんう）も見事に描かれ、恵那山のふもとでは身近な鳥であるサギが、ここでは気品ある芸術として描かれていました。見慣れた存在に新たな表情を見せてくれます。霜降の頃、サギの仲間には、暖かい地域へ渡るものもいれば、この地にとどまるものもいます。冬を迎える前の自然の営みと、襖絵の中の静かな美しさが、ふと重なりました。
さらに奥へ進むと、豪華な書院が広がり、日本の美が随所にちりばめられています。平成に入り管理が引き継がれるまで、ここは代々人が暮らす住まいでした。観光客で賑わう今も、邸内には凛とした空気が流れています。時代が大きく移り変わるなかで、何を美しいと感じ、何を次の世代へ手渡していくのか。木村邸は、そんな問いを静かに投げかけているようでした。
SOKO
soko is the season when the morning and evening chill deepens, and as the temperature difference between day and night widens, the mountains at the foot of Mount Ena gradually take on the colors of autumn.
The “Tenshō Irrigation Canal” flows along the main street. Dug when Oda Nobunaga’s retainers developed the town, this canal has continued to nourish the town for over 450 years.
“The Kimura Residence”
The Kimura family once served as village headmen for the Iwamura Domain, and their lineage has continued for 800 years.
Upon entering the entrance reserved exclusively for the lord, your eye is drawn to the little egret painted on the sliding doors. The beautiful crest feathers were masterfully rendered; the heron—a common bird at the foot of Mount Ena—was depicted here as a work of elegant art. It revealed a new facet of a familiar creature. Around the time of the first frost, some herons migrate to warmer regions, while others remain in this area. I couldn’t help but draw a parallel between the natural cycle leading up to winter and the serene beauty within the fusuma paintings.
